Andrija Puharich, (1918 - 1995), was a parapsychologist, now most widely remember as the one who brought Uri Geller and Peter Hurkos to the United States to investigate their claims. In this book a 'psychically received' lead causes him to explore the possible relationship between psychoactive fungi (the sacred mushroom - amanita muscaria) and religion. Puharich did much of his research from a laboratory in the somewhat unlikely location of Glen Cove, Maine.
