One of the best known works on the "Cottingley fairies." The author, Edward Gardner, was a committed Theosophist, who interviewed the two young girls behind the fairies: the cousins Frances Griffith and Elsie Wright, and showed the pictures to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, who became one of their most enthusiastic, if misguided, supporters. The work was first published in 1945, this the fourth edition (of 1966) was the first to incorporate revisions, notably a four-page "Introduction to the 1966 edition." Spine end and edges faded. Small bookseller's label on front paste-down and small ink stamp on rear paste down. Otherwise, a solid and clean VG copy in Good only dust jacket.
