Rebacked, expertly laid down over later boards, fresh endpapers, 16 full page plates printed on one side only depicting Egyptian hieroglyphs. A significant early study by Samuel Sharpe, 1799 - 1881, a Unitarian scholar with a passion for ancient Egypt, and a facility for languages, who became known both as an Egyptologist and a Bible translator. Boards worn and bumped at all edges, cloth faded at spine and edges, text bright and clean with no foxing. Overall a tight, unmarked near VG copy. Scarce. Item #10635
