Pandora: A Quarterly for Women - Vol.1, No.1, Spring 1962.

Los Angeles, CA: Pandora, Inc., Spring, 1962. First Edition. Softcover. Slim quarto magazine. 30pp. Stapled wrappers. This appears to have been the first and last issue of this magazine devoted to Women and their issues. Strangely, the contents of the magazine - its articles, fiction and poems - seem to be at odds: on the one hand there seems to be a striving to portray a new emancipated woman; on the other hand, articles such as Richard Armour's 'Make Your Husband Happy' and Spence Ellis' 'Is Frigidity a Psychological Problem?' hark back to the older servile role of women Includes a full-page b/w illustration by Swiss-born artist Sonia Sekula (1918 – 1963) - who suicided the year after this magazine appeared. The cover design and several tinted interior illustrations are by American artist Marilyn Rabinovich. Tiny tear at top of spine, wrappers lightly rubbed, otherwise a clean VG copy. Item #17880
