The author, Hereward Carrington (1880-1958), was one of the best-known of the British psychical researchers, and wrote many significant works on the subject, including this study of a large number of scientific investigations into mediums and psychic phenomena. Interesting chapters on various of the devices used: magnetometers; the cylinders of Matla; the Dynamistograph, the "Will Board of Alrutz"; "Dr. Russ's Eye Machine"; Rutot's Triangles, etc. A little light shelf-wear, edges of text-block a little darkened and foxed Endpapers unevenly browned, bookplate on paste down, owner's name on front end paper. Occasional spots of modes foxing. Still a tight clean VG+ copy in a near-VG dust jacket. (Dust jacket is chafed and creased at all extremities, small tears & chips along edges, not price clipped.
