Variously paginated but each volume is approximately 400 pages. Deluxe edition: superb original blind stamped full brown morocco with decorative leather on-lays to upper boards, gilt titling to spines, top edge gilt, rag paper with uncut edges. Copper plate engravings by Hester Sainsbury, printed and hand-coloured by Messrs. A. Alexander and Sons. Edition limited to 1000 numbered copies. superb edition of this collection of erotic tales from the Orient. Considered very racy at the time of publication, they are obviously somewhat tame by modern standards, although rather surprisingly (for the time) they do include some gay content. The four volumes are divided into 12 "books" each of which has its own separate frontispiece with tissue guard and title-page, and is separately paginated.
