Richard Rolle (1290 - 1349) was an English hermit, mystic, and writer, also known as Richard Rolle of Hampole or de Hampole, because he died whilst living near a Cistercian nunnery in Hampole, Yorkshire. In this volume the editor examines Rolle's work of simple mysticism, "Melos Amoris" [ aka "Melum Contemplativorum" aka "The Melody of Love" ]. Lengthy introduction and commentaries on the variant texts, which are reproduced in their original Latin. Ex-library with a few of the usual markings: call nos. gilt stamped to spine, bookplates on pastedowns, no other markings. Spine faded with bruising and chafing at ends, corners lightly chafed, pages toned, a bit of tape residue to endpapers, else a tight, unmarked VG copy. Somewhat scarce. Item #23089
