Light for the Last Days; A Study in Chronological Prophecy
London: Morgan and Scott Ltd., 1917. (New Edition) Third Impression. Hardcover, Octavo. xxiv + 3346pp (+ii - adverts). Original green cloth, with black titling to spine and front board. Frontispiece. A surprisingly uncommon work authored by Henry Grattan Guinness and his wife. Guinness (1835 – 1910) was an Irish Protestant Christian preacher, evangelist and author who was fascinated by the prophetic chronology of the bible. In this work he sought to present "in a detached and definite form, the historic evidence of the fulfilment of the main chronologic prophecies of Scripture" and to make a case that the time in which he was living was that of the sixth unsabbatic day of creation, 6,000 years from Adam, and that the "redemption Sabbath" would arrive soon. "Light for the Last Days" underwent seven editions from 1886 and 1893. This new edition, edited and revised by Rev. E. P. Cachemaille, was released in 1917. Small closed tear to cloth at head of spine, corners bruised, cloth shows typical light signs of handling. Small bookseller's label at bottom of front pastedown. Occasional foxing, heaviest at edges and blanks. A tight, clean, better-than-VG copy of a scarce edition. Item #23090
