Red cloth with gilt title to spine and gilt device and title to upper board, frontis, b&w illustrations. A history of the Abbey of Elstow - a monastery for Benedictine nuns in Elstow, Bedfordshire England which is now known to have been involved in a number of minor scandals and lawsuits and which was closed in 1539. Cloth a bit rubbed, spine sunned and spine ends bumped and chafed with a few small tears and some minor loss, edges bumped, corners bruised and chafed, small personal bookplate opposite the half title page, pages lightly toned but unmarked. Overall a tight, clean near VG copy. Item #23097
