First published in 1861, this is the second edition, in a printing of 1000 copies. Arguably the most significant response to Hinduism by an Indian convert to Christianity to be published in the nineteenth century. The author, Bengali Krishna Mohan Banerjee (1813-1885) was an educationalist, author, linguist and Christian missionary, a professor of Bishop’s College at Shibpore and a member of the Royal Asiatic Society. This work is largely aimed at providing an accurate, non-prejudicial account of the philosophy of Hinduism, drawn from its own texts, for those who would know more of the religion.
