The first edition of Crowley's famous second novel which tells the tale of a young woman caught up in a battle between two magicians, one of whom seeks to use her body as the vessel for the 'birth' in human form of a non-human entity: "the Moonchild" of the title. Loosely inserted is a 2 page photocopy of a typewritten list of marginalia from Aleister Crowley's own copy, in which he identifies the various real-life people on whom the characters are based, etc. etc. General light shelfwear to cloth with a few faint spots, points and spine ends & edges bumped and rubbed, edges darkened and lightly foxed, endpapers unevenly toned, contemporary owner's name in pen of front endpaper, pages a bit browned. Overall a clean better-than-VG copy in a FACSIMILE of the striking Beresford Egan dust jacket. Item #37473
