Item #38937 The Whirlpool. Aleister contributes an Introduction to CROWLEY, Ethel Archer.
The Whirlpool.

The Whirlpool.

London: Wieland & Co., 1911. First Edition. First Edition. Hardcover. Octavo. 46pp (+4pp. adverts) Paper covered boards with striking illustration. A collection of poems addressed to Victor Neuburg and other intimates of Aleister Crowley. It includes an Introduction & Dedication by Crowley, and a poem by Victor Neuburg. Ethel Archer was a close associate of Crowley's at the time, and one of the central figures in the group involved with the publication of "The Equinox" series: with her husband Eugene Wieland she published a number of Crowley's works. Includes advertisements for "The Equinox" and other Crowley titles at rear. Gerald Yorke, who was usually a reliable source, attributed the front cover design to Austin Osman Spare, however there is compelling documentary evidence to suggest that it was actually by Eugene Wieland. Large neat ownership stamp of a defunct US fraternal order on the front free-endpaper, which is also impressed with the blind seal of a former owner. Boards and spine a little darkened, a hint light foxing to throughout. Otherwise a sound, clean VG+ copy of a work which due to its fragile nature is seldom enountered in better condition.
