London: The O.T.O., 1943. First Edition thus. Original thick paper wrappers. Large Octavo. ii + 12pp. Frontis portrait. Printed at the Chiswick Press on fine mold-made paper. Edition limited to 200 signed and numbered copies, this copy is numbered [ # 14 ] but NOT signed (as was common). Crowley wrote the poem during his travels in pre-revolutionary Russia, and first published it in "The English Review" in 1914 and then in this, its first separate publication, in 1943. He recalled in his 'Confessions' that "I expressed the soul of Moscow in a poem "The City of God" .... it is a "hashish dream come true". From the library of English bibliophile and Aleister Crowley scholar Nicholas Bishop-Culpeper (1942-2011) with his book-label tipped in at the rear. Wrappers a bit darkened at outer edges and spine, edges lightly rubbed with some light creasing, paper very lightly browned but otherwise fresh and unmarked. Overall a VG+ copy. Item #39536
