Item #39702 The Preface to the World's Tragedy. Aleister CROWLEY.

The Preface to the World's Tragedy.

NP: Morton Press, ND [ca. 1978]. First Edition Thus. Softcover. Small octavo. Eccentrically paginated (48pp). Printed paper wrappers: 24 sheets of heavy beige paper secured at the spine with a black plastic back-strip (this copy also has transparent yellowish acetate cover sheets which were almost certainly a later addition to protect the wrappers). This Morton Press edition reprints in facsimile the autobiographical Preface (only) of "The World's Tragedy," a book which was originally privately printed in Paris in 1910 in an edition of 100 copies. Most copies of the first edition were said to have been destroyed on account of the frank discussion of homosexuality in its Preface. This edition was reproduced direct from a copy of the First Edition and comprises, and as far as we can tell it is the first separate edition of the Preface. From the collection of English bibliophile and Aleister Crowley scholar Nicholas Bishop-Culpeper, (1942-2011) with his book-label on the inside front cover. Light rubbing to edges otherwise near Fine condition, and quite unusual. Item #39702
