Red Goddess. Babalon the Holy Whore.

UK: Scarlet Imprint, 2007. First Edition. Hardcover. Quarto in slipcase iv + 156pp. Strikingly bound in white cloth, embossed with the seven pointed star of BABALON in scarlet. Scarlet endpapers. The extremely scarce First Edition of the first book to be published by Scarlet Imprint, released 07/07/07. The edition was limited to one hundred and fifty six hand-numbered copies, this being number 66. Every copy of this volume was individually perfumed and consecrated by the publisher, cased in a white cardboard slip-case tied with scarlet ribbon, scattered with scarlet rose petals, and sent in wrapped in bubble-wrap. From the publisher: "The Red Goddess is an ecstatic journey through the unheard history of BABALON, from Revelations back through the Ishtar Gate and forward into a living modern magickal current. This is an explicit and challenging vision of a very modern Goddess coming into power. This is more than a history, it is a passionate account of living magick and the transcendent power of Love. The epic sweep of the text takes us from Babylon to Jerusalem to Rome, and onwards to Apocalypse. It looks at the angelic work of renaissance mage John Dee. It lays bare the excesses of Aleister Crowley, and unlocks the secrets of Waratah Blossoms. It explains the immolation of the Californian antichrist-superstar Jack Parsons and his relationship with Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard. This is the missing history of the Holy Whore." This copy quite literally unused and is still in its original (torn) bubblewrap. Unfortunately whoever packed for Scarlet Imprint at the wasn't aware of the rigours of shipping and the copies they sent out had insufficient padding with the consequence that most received the odd bump en route. This copy is typical. It is basically brand new - indeed we were the first to untie it so that we could photograph it - but the upper spine and edges of the boards show slight bumps they received whilst in transit from the publisher to the purchaser. Otherwise it is in Fine condition in the original flimsy white cardboard slipcase (also bumped), with half a dozen dried rose petals that accompanied it and the red ribbon used to tie book into slipcase back in place, and stored in the (torn) original bubblewrap in which it was despatched.
