The author was a convert to Psychical Research and spiritualism, being won over by her acquiantance with the spiritualist Mrs. Piper, the Psychical Researcher Richard Hodgson, and others. The first part of the book is largely autobiographical, relating Robbins' encounters with these and others, the second part is entitled "Communications from the Other Side of the Veil through Mrs. Piper" and comprises records of sittings etc., whilst the third part is "Suggestive Thoughts on the Attainment of Spirituality."Dr. William James sent the manuscript of this book to the publisher, recommending it be published as a "genuine record of moral and religious experience, to interest and impress readers who desire to know adequately what deeper significance our life may hold in store." Spine darkened & slightly chafed at ends, a few minor bumps to corners and edges of boards, slight ripple to cloth and bump to lower edge of rear board, two faint horizontal creases to early pages (binding fault, but very minor), otherwise an unmarked, solid VG copy (no dust jacket).
