U.S.A. Privately published, ND [ Copyright 1878 ]. Softcover. Octavo. 180pp + 12pp ads. Original red wrappers titled and illustrated in black. B/w frontis. & some illustrations. Date of publication is uncertain but based upon the advertisements at the rear, we would place this copy at or near the copyright date of 1878. While there is no indication of the identity of the author, WorldCat lists the author as Henry Williams. An unusual and scarce book of instruction on all things occult, includes chapters on "Sorcery and Witchcraft", "Toad Stone", "Sorcerer and Magician", "Divination", "The Art of Mind Reading", "Alchemy", "Astrology", "Precious Stones", "Mesmerism - Table Turning - Spiritualism", and "Clairvoyant". Covers a bit rubbed, darkened and chafed with some light chipping to edges and spine ends, spine creased and a bit faded, a few small gutter tears to frontispiece page (frontis. still attached but fragile), pages age-browned, two staples through gutter of text block appear to be more recent - but have been neatly installed so are not unsightly and do good job of reinforcing this fragile publication. Overall a solid , complete and unmarked Good copy of an uncommon title. Item #44232
