Aleister Crowley contributes a short story, "The Stratagem" to The English Review, Vol. XVII, No. 3, June 1914.

The issue includes the first appearance in print of Crowley's short story "The Stratagem" - (pp. 339 - 351). Also includes "Vin Ordinaire" by D. H. Lawrence, "Feathers" by Norman Douglas, etc. etc. Wrappers uniformly darkened. Front wrapper is missing the top right corner, and a number of significant chips where it connects to the spine. The front wrapper has obviously been detached and has now been reattached and internally reinforced, with the plain paper stub visible due to the chipping. Spine heavily chipped, with loss, a few other small chips and tears to the wrappers. Occasional light foxing and usual wear typical to this fragile journal. Otherwise a Good or better copy of one of the scarcest and most important of the "Crowley" issues of "The English Review." Item #46259
