... And After.

... And After.

London: T. Werner Laurie, 1931. First Edition. Hardcover. Large octavo. 402pp. + vipp. adverts. Black cloth gilt-lettered (and with arrow motif) on spine & front board, index. B/w frontisportrait & 21 mostly full-page photographic plates of "Exhibits" - seance imprints etc. British-born Bradley recounts his experiences with Spiritualism, notably with the direct voice medium George Valiantine, of whom he was, for a time, an avid supporter. However, by the time that Bradley wrote "... And After" he had reached the conclusion that while Valiantine had once exhibited some genuine Mediumistic talents, these were now lost, and he was resorting to fraud. Bradley also included a chapter on his dealings with another American Medium, Mrs. Hamilton, whose cause was being championed by a London accountant, Robert Sproull. Sproull took exception to Bradley's comments and sued him for libel, apparently winning £500 damages. The book was then withdrawn from circulation by the publishers and is now quite scarce. Page-edges lightly browned, uneven browning to half-title & rear endpaper, hint of foxing, small contemporary London bookshop label on front free end-paper - else a bright, unmarked VG+ copy (no dust jacket).
