Leah Sublime. Aleister CROWLEY.

Leah Sublime.

London: Sub Rosa Press, ND ( 1974 ). First Edition. Softcover. 8vo. 24pp. Grey wrappers printed in black. Edition limited to 100 hand-numbered copies, this being no. 77. The first ever publication of Crowley's spectacularly filthy poem dedicated to Leah Hirsig. Crowley wrote of it in his diary for June 28, 1920: "Against all principals, and in breach of two promises, I have sat up all night in the snows, writing a poem to Leah. One long poem - an occasional publishable line thrown in when I weakened. 7.00 am: I think I'll collect all my filth in one poem and mark it Leah in plain figures. 10.00 am: I think I did." Due to the obscenity of the poem the booklet quite literally had to be sold "under the counter" lest booksellers face prosecution. Corners lightly bumped, otherwise a clean near Fine copy. Quite scarce. Item #47504
