The Old Night-Watchman - The Ghost of Spixworth Hall: A Norfolk Ghost Story and other Anecdotes.

Ipswich, England: W. S. Cowell, 1950. First Edition. Hardcover. Small quarto. 44pp. Light grey cloth lettered in green on front board. B/w frontis. & illustrations. An account of Spixworth Hall, a stately home in Norfolk, residence of the Longe family. Originally written as an introduction to the family's history for their younger members, it includes a "true" account of an encounter with a ghost experienced by the author. From the collection of Dr. M. H. Coleman, with his ex-libris seal blind-stamped on the front free endpaper. Boards lightly warped and cloth is unevenly faded and discoloured, seemingly from an exposure to damp. A little chafing to extremities, creasing to fore-edge of front blank, else a solid, internally-clean near-VG copy (no dust jacket). Item #49151
