np. [Privately printed for the author], [1942]. First Edition. Pamphlet. Slim octavo. viii + 38pp. Sewn in printed paper wrappers. Bibliography. It was not until 1942, in his 76th year, that Wells sought and obtained the Degree of Doctor of Science at the University of London. He submitted this thesis - a meditation on the human condition from a socio-biological viewpoint - with psychological insights drawing from Adler and Jung. The author caused a small private edition to be printed in 1942, in order that copies might be available to scientific institutions. He also contemplated selling a few copies at a high price for the benefit of the propaganda funds of the Natural Rights of Man, of which he was the acting secretary. The idea was discarded and the Thesis was eventually included in the collection of essays called "'42 to ’44”, of which a limited edition was published in 1944. From the collection of Dr. M. H. Coleman, with his ex-libris seal blind-stamped on the front wrapper. The original ties have perished, so the gatherings are loose, and ideally would be resewn. In all other respects a clean, VG+ copy. Item #49601
