London: Heywood & Co., 1867. First Edition. Hardcover. Small octavo. 60pp. Attractive quarter leather binding. Dark green calf with gilt lettering & raised bands on spine, over matching cloth boards; marbled endpapers. The Proceedings of the third convention of the British Association of Progressive Spiritualists - containing much interesting information on contemporary Spirtualist activities. The Association was the first national British Spiritualist organisation. It was founded in Darlington; County Durham, in 1865, and prospered briefly, holding four national conferences, before collapsing following its fourth conference in London in 1868. The reasons for the collapse were complex, but were apparently it was at least in part caused by tensions between Christian Spiritualists, and their non or anti- Christian counterparts (the Association was variously accused of being anti-Christian). From the collection of Dr. M. H. Coleman, with his ex-libris seal blind-stamped on the rear free endpaper. Extremely scarce. No copies listed in Worldcat. Pages lightly toned, otherwise a clean, complete VG copy. Item #49808
