Spirit-Psychometry and Trance Communications by Unseen Agencies; Through a Welsh Woman and Dr. T. D'Aute-Hooper

London: William Rider & Son, Ltd, 1914. First Edition. Hardcover. Octavo. 160pp. Red cloth gilt-lettered on spine, lettered and bordered in blind on front board. B/w frontis & plates. The author accepts the standard understanding of psychometry as the ability to discover facts about an event or person by handling or viewing associated inanimate objects, but ties it closely with Spiritualism, suggesting that the readings are basically relayed through the same spirit controls who inform mediums. In this book he relates a large series of experiment with a Welsh medium - known by the pseudonym "Olwyn" - who starts as a psychometrix but morphs into a trance medium. The content is divided into three parts: Part I "Psychometrical Visions, Through Various Objects (Olwen and Dr. T. D'Aute-Hooper), Part II: "Olwen's First Trance on Passing from being a Psychometrix into a Trance Medium (Jan 29, 1910); and Part III: "Irrelevant Visions". From the collection of Dr. M. H. Coleman, but not marked as such. Cloth a bit rubbed and spot faded, spine faded and chafed at ends, corners bruised and chafed, front hinge a bit shaken but holding well, page-edges foxed, occasional foxing to pages throughout. Still an unmarked about VG copy (no dust jacket). Item #51555
