Tales of Power.

London: Hodder & Stoughton, 1974. First UK Edition. Hardcover. Octavo. 288pp. Blue textured papered boards gilt-lettered on spine. Carlos Arana Castaneda (1925 - 1998) was a Peruvian-American author and student of anthropology, who wrote a series of books that describe his alleged training in shamanism. Narrated in the first person, Castaneda relates his "experiences" under the tutelage of a Yaqui "Man of Knowledge" named Don Juan Matus. Castaneda's books have sold more than 8 million copies in 17 languages. Critics have suggested that they are works of fiction while supporters claim the books are either true or at least valuable works of philosophy and descriptions of practices which enable an increased awareness. From the collection of Dr. M. H. Coleman, with his ex-libris seal blind-stamped on the front free endpaper. Page-edges & endpapers discolored, bumps to corners of boards, spine ends rubbed, else a solid Good+ copy in near-VG dust jacket (dust jacket spine faded, several chips, slightly rubbed). Item #52652
