Chicago: Will Ransom, 1923. First Edition, Signed. Hardcover. Octavo 40pp. Original buckram spine, with blue paper covered boards. Printed in black and blue on fine rag paper. Edition limited to CCXX (220) numbered copies. Signed on dedication page "Frater Achad" in blue pen, and on limitation page at rear, "Will Ransom, Maker of Books." A most elegant production, one of a small number of volumes designed and published in the early 1920s by Will Ransom (1878 – 1955), the renowned American private press publisher, book and typeface designer, and bibliographer. Frater Achad - Charles Stansfeld Jones (1886-1950) was for a number of years Crowley's chief disciple. For a time Crowley regarded Jones as his "magical son", born of his sex magical workings with Jeanne Foster in 1915, and also identified by him as the child prophesied in "The Book of the Law," who would unlock "mysteries that no Beast shall divine." "Thirty One Hymns to the Star Goddess" is a series of hymns or poetic devotions, directed towards the Egyptian Goddess Nuit, with the quotations attributed to the Star-Goddess in this volume originating in "The Book of the Law." The volume itself is a truly elegant piece of book production, designed by the renowned book craftsman, Will Ransom. Slight darkening to spine and a very faintly discolored patch on upper boards. Otherwise a tight, bright, clean, VG+ copy. Item #53186
