Item #54730 The Confessions of Aleister Crowley An Autohagiography ( with original promotional post card ). John Symonds, Kenneth Grant.

The Confessions of Aleister Crowley An Autohagiography ( with original promotional post card ).

New York, NY: Hill & Wang, 1970. First American Edition. Hardcover. Large octavo. 960pp. Illustrated black cloth with gilt title, etc. to spine, frontis, illustrations, index. Includes an original 6 1/4" x 4 1/4" postcard announcing the publication of this American edition. The postcard reproduces five black and white photographic portraits of Crowley, within purple borders (matching the dust jacket design and stamping on the front board). Crowley had originally intended his 'Confessions' would be published in six volumes, but only two of these had been published before the Great Depression and various internal disputes led to the demise of the publishers. The project languished uncompleted throughout Crowley's lifetime, and it was not until 1969 that the Confessions were issued in a single volume abridged edition, edited by John Symonds and Kenneth Grant. This is the first US edition of that work (published one year after the UK edition). Still one of the major biographical sources on Crowley, and essential to an understanding of his life and magick. Uncommon with the postcard. Corners and spine ends lightly bumped lower extremities lightly rubbed, gold titling to spine a bit faded, otherwise a tight, bright VG+ copy in VG dust jacket (Dust jacket panels a bit rubbed and edges chafed, not clipped Postcard in Fine condition.
