Item #55490 The Vindication of Nietzsche. Aleister CROWLEY.

The Vindication of Nietzsche.

England: Morton Press, 1979. First Edition. Softcover. Octavo. Not paginated [ 14pp.] Stapled beige wrappers, lettered in black, text pages beige. An essay, probably written at the very start of the First World War: presumably later 1914 or early 1915. In it Crowley lambasts the British establishment for going to war with Germany (which he equates with Nietzsche) and predicts dire consequences. The work has numerous quotes from "The Book of the Law" to justify his contention that in taking arms against Germany, Britain is struggling to maintain the dying aeon. Crowley intended to use "The Vindication of Nietzsche" as the opening essay to his abortive collection "The Giant’s Thumb" which reached proof-stage in 1915, but "The Giant’s Thumb" remained unpublished until 1992. This Moreton Press edition of "The Vindication of Nietzsche" was definitely the first separate publication of the work, and quite possibly its first publication at all (there are rumours that the essay was published in "The International" but that journal has been quite well searched and no sign of the essay has yet been located). Bump and resulting crease to upper corners otherwise a clean VG copy. Unusual. Item #55490
