William Kingsland (1855 - 1936) was an English engineer & scientist who was a follower of the teachings of H.P. Blavatsky and was for a time president of the Blavatsky Lodge in London. Kingsland authored a number of books including this one and perhaps his best known "Rational Mysticism". "The Gnosis" was his last work, finished shortly before his death.
