Chicago, IL: The Aries Press, 1937, 1938, 1939, 1940. First Editions. Hardcovers. Large Octavos. Four volumes (complete set). 232 pp & 300 pp & 280 pp & 368 pp. Original black cloth with gilt titles, etc. to spines. B&W and color illustrations, fold-outs. Color frontis in Volume I, b&w frontis Volume II. The first edition of Regardie's landmark publication of the rituals and teachings of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn (or more correctly the recensions used by the Stella Matutina, the Order to which he had belonged). A remarkably bright, clean set, in the original yellow and red dust jackets. The dust jackets are thought to be second issue, probably used by the publisher to replace the flimsy and easily rubbed gold-coloured jackets in which the books first seem to have been issued. Boards a trifle discoloured, edges a little dusty, some light off-setting from title-page of Vol. I to frontispiece (typical with this volume), text pages lightly browned, still a remarkably clean, bright, tight VG + set in VG + dust jackets. The dust jackets a little darkened - mostly at spines - and lightly rubbed, but still in remarkably good condition, with no obvious chips or tears, and now protected by removable mylar sleeves).
