Item #57324 Problems of Mysticism and its Symbolism. Dr. Herbert SILBERER, M. D. Smith Ely Jelliffe, PhD.

Problems of Mysticism and its Symbolism.

New York, NY: Samuel Weiser Inc., 1970. Reprint. Hardcover. Octavo. xiii + 452pp. Maroon cloth with gilt title etc to spine. Notes, bibliography, index. Herbert Silberer (1882, – 1923) was a prominent Viennese psychoanalyst who moved in the same circles as Sigmund Freud, Carl Jung, Alfred Adler and others. In 1914 he published "Probleme der Mystik und ihrer Symbolik" ("Problems of Mysticism and its Symbolism"). The book is a sympathetic exploration of esoteric traditions, notably the alchemical, hermetic, rosicrucian and masonic, from the pyschological perspective. This particular work is said to have been both influenced by, and an influence upon, that of Jung, although it was dismissed by Freudians, a rejection that apparently played a part in the author's eventual suicide. A little light rubbing and bumps to edges and extremities, light ripple to cloth at upper rear spine edge (binder's fault), edges darkened, owner's name and ink stamped date on front blank, otherwise a tight, clean VG copy. (No dust jacket if called for). Item #57324
