Item #57450 Songs For Italy. Aleister CROWLEY.

Songs For Italy.

NP [ London ]: Privately Printed, ND [1923 ]. First Edition thus. Softcover. Octavo. 16pp. Stapled booklet in original blue/grey wrappers. Upper cover reads 'Songs For Italy /"Parturiunt Montes- / Mascitur Ridiculus Mus" - Solini / by / ALEISTER CROWLEY / June-Sept. XIX Price: One Shilling". [Words "One Shilling" illegible]. A collection of (largely anti-fascist) poetry, published at around the time of Crowley's expulsion from the Abbey at Cefalu (the XIX represents the 'Thelemic Year' 19, ie 1923 ev). A few months earlier Crowley had published several of the poems in this collection in the form of a folded sheet, with the same title. Wrappers darkened and somewhat discoloured overall, with a circular abrasion about the size of a finger-print to the front wrapper where the words "One Shilling" were printed (it appears the words were covered with a circular price-label, which lifted the surface of the paper when it was removed. The wrappers had split down the spine, and have been professionally reinforced in the inner gutter, with the original staple reinserted. Pages lightly browned, with one or two slightly grubby marks. Otherwise a clean about VG copy of a scarce printing. Item #57450
