Los Angeles, CA: Commercial Printing House, 1916. First Edition. Hardcover. Octavo. 278pp. Maroon cloth lettered in gilt on spine and upper board, gilt embellishment to upper board, b&w illustrations. The first edition of this work of occult fiction: "A story of India and Tibet, revolving around a magic necklace which brought evil to its possessor, unless he or she was of an unselfish and upright nature." Reincarnation, romance and death! Unusual bookseller's label of occult bookseller and publisher Maude Johnson Beane (who ran the "Occult Book Shelf" in San Diego in the very early 1900s) on the front pastedown. A hint of chafing to corners and spine ends, endpapers unevenly browned, one inch split to front endpapers at lower inner hinge (hinge solid). Still overall a lovely bright VG+ copy in VG dust jacket (Dust jacket is a bit darkened overall - more so at spine, light creasing to upper edge, light chipping at upper spine and upper rear panel, not clipped).
