London: William Rider & Son, 1911. First Edition. Hardcover. Quarto. xxxvi + 340pp. Original white buckram boards, with gilt titling and enlarged design of the Tarot trump 'The Magician' from the deck designed by Waite and Pamela Coleman Smith stamped on front cover. Frontis plate of Edward Kelly raising a spirit w/ tissue guard, eight other full-page "process engraved" plates, and 188 vignettes, smaller illustrations etc. in text and as decoration. "The Book of Ceremonial Magic" was effectively a revised edition of Waite's earlier "Book of Black Magic and Pacts," with an added Introduction, Conclusion, and three new sections in the third Chapter of the first Part. As the title suggests it is a study and collection of material from various grimoires, including "The Key of Solomon," "The Lesser Key of Solomon," "The Grimoire of Honorius," "The Fourth Book of Agrippa," "The Sacred Magic of Abramelin the Mage," etc. etc. [GilbertA 25a] Perhaps a "working copy" for some long ago Magician, the white buckram is very darkened and grubby - more so at edges and spine, all edges a bit chafed, corners fraying a bit, page edges darkened and thumbed, inside hinges professionally and very neatly reinforced, occult bookshop sticker on front pastedown, owner's name on front blank, pages browned with scattered finger marks - though despite being well used - there is no notation or underlining to text. Overall a tight unmarked just Good copy of this scarce edition. Large heavy book, additional shipping may be required. Item #58274
