The author, Theophilus Bulkeley Hyslop (1863-1933), was a prominent psychiatrist and Medical Officer at Bethlem ("Bedlam" asylum) from 1888 - 1911. "The Great Abnormals" is essentially a sympathetic study of outsiders ("those who do not conform to our own self-opinionated standards of mentality") with chapters on Tyrants and Despots; The Crusades; Witch Mania and Superstition; Epidemic Manias and Almanacs; The Alchemists; Bedlam; Visionaries; The Peculiarities of Men of Genius; The Remedy. Covers somewhat faded. A hint of pale foxing. Otherwise a tight, clean VG+ copy (no dust jacket). Item #58460
