Chelmsford, UK, 2002: Xoanon Publishing Ltd., 2002. First Edition Thus - Limited, Signed. Hardcover. Large Octavo. 366pp. Original gilt-stamped green cloth boards with tan goat-skin spine, marbled endpages, in gilt stamped matching cloth slipcase. B&W illustrations, glossary. First hardcover edition. Arguably the best issue of Chumbley's famous work: limited to 44 numbered copies. This copy INSCRIBED and SIGNED by Chumbley: "To Unas from Alogos," Edition Number "D-43 [symbols] / 43 of 44." Included is a black textured paper envelope, inscribed on the front by Chumbley "Talisman of the Twenty-First Letter Revers'd, 43 of 44" containing a talismanic card (a single sheet folded to give fours sides) which has one printed and numerous hand-drawn embellishments, highly decorated in colour and black and white by Andrew Chumbley, with talismans, sigils, artwork and calligraphic text. Originally published by in 1992 in a limited edition of only 300 copies, Azoetia or 'The Book of the Magical Quintessence' has become one of the most sought-after new magical works of our time and may be regarded as the foundation text of the Sabbatic Craft. Slipcase has a little light rubbing and the gilt is a little dulled, the leather spine is somewhat darkened. There is a little fraying to the cloth where it meets the leather spine on both the front and back boards (this is common with this edition - most copies exhibit it), and there are general light signs of handling to the cloth. There are tiny 1/8 inch tears to the top and bottom of the front endpaper gutter, a little darkening to the fore-edge of the text block. The relatively minor flaws are are either the consequence of the type of binding, and/or a little light use, and it is hard to imagine that there would be many other copies in better condition unless they had been sealed and carefully packed away from new. A VG+ or better copy in VG+ original matching clothbound slipcase (no dust jacket issued). Item #58510
