One, The Grimoire of the Golden Toad.

Chelmsford, UK: Xoanon Publishing Ltd., 2000. First Edition - Limited. Hardcover. Small quarto. 64pp Full faux leather binding, silver design on upper board, silver stamped title on spine. Edition limited to 77 numbered copies. Perhaps the most sought-after publication of Andrew Chumbley and the Cultus Sabbati, this copy includes all the loosely inserted enclosures. Its full title is ONE / THE GRIMOIRE OF THE GOLDEN TOAD / A Mystery-text serving to reveal the Arcana of / SABATRAXAS / being / An exposition of the Antient / Wicce-craft Initiation into the / Mysteries of Toadmanship, / known unto the Wise as / "The Waters of the Moon" / Here transcribed by A:. / For all who seek the Way of the Lonely Road." It sets forth a ritual involving the crucifixion of a toad that is said to have been associated with the Guild of the Horseman's Word, and is of such sinister reputation that it rumoured to have consequences as dangerous to the operator as they are to the unfortunate toad. The inserts comprise a small white envelope, with a hand-drawn sigil and "Blackthorn & Toadskin" written in Chumbley's handwriting on the front, containing a 1.5 inch blackthorn and a triangular shaped toadskin talisman, approximately 2 inches at the base by 1.5 inches on each side, with the skin's natural texture on one side, and decorations in green and gold on the other. There is also another insert - not distributed with all copies - that comprises a large outer envelope which is sigilized and has the word "Sabbatrakhaion" in Chumbley's handwriting, inside which is a large red card stock folder with printed text beginning "Seventy-seven Souls for Lamech" that is again personally sigilized and signed by Chumbley on the front and back. Within this is a blue-black card sheet, entitled "The Grimoire Sabatrachion," which is covered with a complex series of hand-drawn sigils in gold and silver inks. According to Daniel Schulke, this latter insert was only included in selected copies, and indeed we have had several copies with just the smaller envelope and contents in the past. Leather boards a little leaned and slightly bowed as always. There is a some minor bubbling and creasing to the pastedowns - this is obviously an artefact of the binding process - the white envelope of the "Sabatrachion" is starting to brown, otherwise about Fine condition (no dustwrapper, none called for).
