London: Theosophical Publishing Society, 1890, 1891. First Edition. Hardcover, Quarto. 528pp. Modern black cloth with gilt lettered spine label, index. Six issues of the Theosophical journal "Lucifer," (Vol. VII, No. 37 - 42, September 1890- February 1891 inclusive) bound together - original wrappers NOT bound in. The first issue of "Lucifer" was published under the editorship of H . P. Blavatsky in September 1887. In 1889 Annie Besant joined her as co-editor, taking over the editorship at Blavatsky's death in May 1891. Besant remained editor with G. R. S. Mead becoming a co-editor in September 1895. It's final, 20th volume was issued in August 1897, at which time it was rechristened "The Theosophical Review." "Lucifer" represented Theosophy in its broadest sense, with essays and articles not only relating to the Society and its aims, but also on other occult, religious, and philosophical subjects, as well as updates on the spread of Theosophy, book reviews, letters, etc. It includes material by Theosophical Society luminaries such as Annie Besant, William Quan Judge, H. P. Blavastky, William Kingsland and G.R.S. Mead as well as others. Recent cloth binding is in near Fine condition, Fresh endpapers. Page edges a bit browned, pages uniformly browned, but unmarked.
