An Autograph Letter, Signed.

An Autograph Letter, Signed.

NP, (circa 1901). A single sheet, folded, to give four 7 x 4.5 inch pages. The letter is on pages 1 and 3 only, pages 2 and 4 (the versos) being left blank. Entirely handwritten. A short letter, addressed to a Mr. McLure, in which Corelli seeks to schedule a meeting. It is dated simply "Sunday" and signed "Faithfully yours / Marie Corelli" with her London address "47 Longridge Road, Earl's Court, S.W." underneath the signature. Marie Corelli (1855-1924), was an enormously popular British writer of often occult-themed fiction, whose novels are considered by some to be minor classics of supernatural fiction. Her books had a wide readership - including Gerald Gardner who had four of her novels in his library - and Aleister Crowley, who refered to her in several book reviews. A barely visible one-inch closed vertical tear in the centre of both leaves (across the signature of the second leaf), a horizontal crease across both leaves from being folded into an envelope. Otherwise VG condition. Item #58895
