A Vision. An Explanation of Life Founded Upon the Writings of Giraldus and Upon Certain Doctrines Attributed to Kusta Ben Luka.

London: T. Werner Laurie Ltd., 1925. First Edition. Hardcover. Large octavo. xxiii + 256pp. White parchment spine over grey textured papered boards, coloured endpapers. Frontispiece portrait of Giraldus and an illustration of "the Great Wheel" on tan paper. A "Subscriber's" edition limited to 600 numbered copies, SIGNED by Yeats. The First edition of Yeats' exposition on esoteric principles, doctrines, and experiences derived from the results of his wife's "automatic writings" early in their marriage, and from which most of his poetry is said to have come. Although not explicitly referenced, there is little doubt that Yeats' long involvement with the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn and it's offshoot, the Stella Matutina, strongly influenced the themes of "A Vision," as a number of studies suggest. Parchment spine and boards a little unevenly darkened, particularly at around the edges, corners and spine ends bruised. Uneven shadowing to endpapers, neat five-line previous owner's gift inscription in bottom corner of first blank, otherwise internally remarkably fresh and bright. Overall a tight, clean VG+ copy in G + dust jacket. (The dust jacket is 98% complete, but with some chipping at the edges, notably at the folds and head and tail of spine, the spine is quite darkened and the panels are generally a little grubby. There are some short tears and cracking at the folds. It has been reinforced from the rear with one small old brown paper repair, and more recent archival tissue backing.). Item #58927
