Edinburgh: Magnum Opus Hermetic Sourceworks, 1984. Limited Edition. Hardcover. Octavo. viii + 128pp. Hand bound in brown faux-leather, b&w illustrations. Edition limited to 250 copies. Signed by Adam McLean. Magnum Opus Hermetic Sourceworks series No. 18. The Foxcroft translation of the "Chymische Hochzeit Christiani Rosencreutzhe," ("The Chymical Wedding of Christian Rosenkreutz"), with commentaries etc. The "Chymische Hochzeit" was the third of the original manifestos of the "Fraternity of the Rose Cross" which is generally ascribed to Johannes Valentinus Andreae (1586-1654), and has been aptly described by Dame Frances Yate's as "a strange alchemical romance." This edition comprises an Introduction by Adam McLean, a translation of "The Chymical Wedding of Christian Rosenkreutz" (based on the 1690 Foxcroft translation), A Commentary on The Chymical Wedding by Adam McLean, The Chymical Marriage of Christian Rosenkreutz, A Commentary by Gareth Knight, an Appendix: "The Parabola of Hinricus Madathanus Theosophus," and a Bibliography. First issue: the paper on which it is printed is a buff colour, it has a low limitation number, and the binding is a dark brown with the title lettered down the spine reading "Commentary on the Chymical Wedding." Boards lightly rubbed, brown damp mark to about a half inch at lower page corners (not affecting text), glue drying a bit and a little brittle at inner margins but holding well. Overall a tight, clean VG+ copy. Item #58939
