London: Privately printed at Chiswick Press, 1891. First Edition. Softcover. Square duodecimo. 66pp, of which pp 51- 66 are lists of publications and of members. Printed transparent parchment paper jacket over card covers. Edges uncut. "Privately Printed Opuscula … of the Sette of Odd Volumes, No. XXV." One of a limited edition of 245 numbered copies. This copy is numbered 137, and has the subcsriber's name H. W. Fincham Esq filled in and signed by James Roberts Brown (a former president of the Sette of Odd Volumes who described himself as an "alchymist') on the limitation page. An examination of the Scottish witchcraft trials, in which the author, a well-known member of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, suggests that many of the phenomena recorded could be explained by hypnosis or other psychic effects. Parchment wrapper heavily browned and foxed, as almost always, page-edges darkened, offsetting to free-endpapers from turn-overs of wrappers, else a tight, clean VG+ copy. Item #59075
