A pen portrait of Cornwall, its people, countryside, mythology, and Celtic legend, by author, playwright, poet and painter Ithell Colquhoun (1906 - 1988). Colquhoun spent much of the latter part of her life in Cornwall, keeping a studio near Penzance from 1946 and residing there from 1957 until her death in 1988. A member of the British group of Surrealists, Colquhoun also had a profound interest in the occult, particularly the Golden Dawn, and was for a time a member of the Nu Isis Lodge of Kenneth Grant's Typhonian O.T.O. As an author she is best known for her biography of Samuel Liddell MacGregor Mathers, 'Sword of Wisdom,' although she also published an esoterically themed novel, "The Goose of Hermogenes" and a travel book on Ireland. A hint of wear to the covers, otherwise a VG+ copy in G+ dust jacket (the dustjacket is missing a couple of finger-nail sized chips from the head of the spine and the adjoining area of the top panel and has some other small chips and tears around the edges.
