The Chemical Wedding of Christian Rosenkreutz; Magnum Opus Hermetic Sourceworks #18

Grand Rapids, MI: Phanes Press, 1991. Second edition. Hardcover. Octavo. 176pp. Publisher's maroon cloth with gilt lettering to spine and upper board, b&w frontis, appendix, bibliography. The Second edition of No. 18 of Adam McLean's Magnum Opus Hermetic Sourceworks which was first published in the hand bound limited editions that McLean is known for. This is the first translation into contemporary English of what is perhaps the most profound of the three 'Rosicrucian manifestos' published between 1614 and 1616, with McLean's commentary. From McLean: "The Chymical Wedding of Christian Rosenkreutz is well known as the major piece of early Rosicrucian writing. It is in the form of an allegorical romance, with a well-paced plot that captures the interest of the reader, and through the medium of allegory, conveys the essential esoteric philosophy underlying Rosicrucianism. Although the text in a 17th century English translation has been available recently in various publications, it really needs a commentary to help unravel the elaborate threads of esoteric ideas that form its fabric. Adam McLean here attempts to provide such an extensive commentary, hoping to elucidate and throw some light upon the tranformative process outlined in this most important of Alchemical allegories." Very slight ripple to cloth at upper edge of rear board -otherwise a tight, bright Fine copy. (no dust jacket issued). Item #59467
