The Rosicrucian Emblems of Daniel Cramer; ( Magnum Opus Hermetic Sourceworks series )

Edinburgh, Scotland: Magnum Opus Hermetic Sourceworks, 1980. Limited ed. Hardcover, Octavo. viii + 66 pp. Hand bound in brown faux-leather, b&w illustrations. Edition limited to 250 copies. Signed by Adam McLean. No. 4 of the Magnum Opus Hermetic Sourceworks Series. "Daniel Cramer's Emblems were issued in 1617 during the height of Rosicrucian publishing ... The 40 emblems, arranged in four 'decades', are an eloquent expression of a meditative process centred upon a mystical contemplation of the heart of man. ..... We see the symbol of the heart undergoing various processes, experiencing certain aspirations or emotions, or being purified through spiritual and alchemical operations. It would seem that this emblem book was intended as a simple statement of the Rosicrucian philosophy in a form which could be grasped through imaginative working with symbols ..." First edition: early issue. This copy is typical of the early issues of this work: it has a mid-range number in the sequence of limitation, the binding is a brown patterned faux leather, it is printed on a buff colour stock, and with the title lettered down the spine reading "The Rosicrucian Emblems of Daniel Cramer". Light rubbing to boards, as usual - a chemical reaction between the endpapers and the binder's glue has caused some darkening to the the outer margins of the pastedowns - which has offset lightly onto the facing endpapers. A little foxing to the edges. Overall a tight, clean VG+ copy. Item #59558
