Aleister Crowley ( An Untitled 33rpm Record Album ).

Aleister Crowley ( An Untitled 33rpm Record Album ).

NP (England): (David Tibet), ND [ ca 1992 ]. First Edition Thus. LP Record Album. A single long-playing 33rpm record with a selection of readings by Crowley, in a printed sleeve. The sleeve has the words "Aleister Crowley" and a photograph of an elderly Crowley pointing his finger on the front, and a block of text on the rear that is obviously Buddhist in sentiment and quite unsympathetic to Crowley: "Reflect on why you bought this record ... Crowley is a shadow. …. Yet Crowley, for all his arrogance, died as confused as any other. 'I am perplexed …' Consideration of others - compassion - is the most important quality we can possess. …. May all sentient beings achieve happiness and liberation." The only other text anywhere are the track names and the word "Aleister Crowley", "Made in England" and "Oz 77" on the label. The tracks are: Side I: The Call Of The First Aethyr (Enochian); The Call Of The First Aethyr (English); The Call Of The Second Aethyr (Enochian); The Call Of The Second Aethyr (English); Side II: La Gitana; The Pentagram; One Sovereign For Woman; The Poet; At Sea; Fingernails; The Titanic; Hymn to the American People on the Anniversary of their Independence; Collects From The Gnostic Mass; Vive La France. The recordings are commonly referred to as the "wax cylinder" recordings and are said to date from "1910-1914." In fact they were recorded on metal "transcription disks" - mostly at HMV in London - between approximately 1936 and 1942. This was the second LP release of this selection, which we are reliably informed was anonymously produced by David Tibet. It was preceded by the "Hastings Archive" (1986). We are book sellers and not used to grading records, but both record and sleeve appear near-Fine to us. Item #59819
