Original brown pebbled cloth decorated in blind on upper board and lettered in gilt on spine, "Note to Subscribers" bound in at commencement of editor's preface. A biographical sketch and accounting of the paranormal observations of Jesse Babcock Ferguson (1819–1870) an American Christian preacher who edited a periodical called "The Christian Magazine" - and after being expelled from his church for his spiritualist beliefs, traveled to England with American magicians/medium brothers - Ira Erastus Davenport (1839 – 1911) and William Henry Davenport (1841 – 1877), aka "The Davenport Brothers". Includes a chapter on the Davenport Brothers. From the collection of Dr. M. H. Coleman, with his ex-libris seal blind-stamped on the front free endpaper. Cloth a little darkened, corners and spine ends bruised and lightly chafed, endpapers unevenly browned, first and last leaves heavily foxed, paper toned. Still a tight, unmarked beer than VG copy.
