Epes Sargent (1813–1880) was an American author, poet and playwright. Sargent became involved in Spiritualism, hosting many séances, and philosophical discussions. Along with this volume, he authored "Planchette; or, The Despair of Science" (1869) and "The Scientific Basis of Spiritualism" (1880). From the collection of Dr. M. H. Coleman, with his ex-libris seal blind-stamped on the front blank. From the library of the Hall of Science Institute with their ink stamp to front blank and shadow from call nos. at mid-spine - but no other library marks. Cloth rubbed, a bit faded at upper edge of top board, corners and spine ends bruised and chafed with some fraying, a few bumps and heavy rubs to edges, page edges darkened, endpapers unevenly browned and foxed, pages toned, a very few scattered pencil marks to text.
