The White Brother. An Occult Autobiography.

London: Rider & Co., (ca. 1929). First edition. Hardcover. Octavo. iv + 216pp. Original purple cloth with gilt titling to spine, blind rules to upper board. Michael Juste was the pseudonym of Michael Houghton (1897-1961), British bookseller, occultist, and small-press publisher. Houghton was co-founder and proprietor of the Atlantis Book Shop in London, edited the short-lived journal "The Occult Observer" (1949-50) and ran the Neptune Press. He was well known in British occult circles from the 1920s up until his death in the 1950s. "The White Brother" (1927) is his early autobiography, describing a number of occult luminaries, although with their identities obscured by the use of pseudonyms. Spine darkened and cloth unevenly faded, light bruising and rubbing to spine ends and corners, page edges and first & last pages a little foxed, contemporary gift note (dated 1929) on front free endpaper. Otherwise an unmarked VG+ copy. Item #61070
