A facsimile reprint of the two works which Waite wrote under the pseudonym "Grand Orient." The first volume, "A Manual of Cartomancy: Fortune-Telling and Occult Divination," is a broad ranging study of divination, with chapters on cartomancy (divination using playing cards, Tarot cards), "The Art of Invoking Spirits in the Crystal," "An Egyptian Method of Fortune Telling," "To Read A Person's Character by Means of Kabalistic Calculations," etc. The second volume "The Book of Destiny" comprises a number of short texts of unknown origin: "The Great Oracle of the Gods"; "The Art of Knowing the Good Genii and their Influence upon the Destiny of Men"; "The Occult Science of Jewels"; "Sidelights on Workings of Destiny in Business and Pleasure"; "Some Names of Womanhood"; etc. etc. With a new introdution by University Books editor Leslie Shepard, who calls it "an intriguing collection of mystical card and other divination systems." Cloth slightly faded at edges, corners and spine ends lightly bruised, page edges a little darkened, else a tight, clean VG+ set in Good dust jackets (Dust jackets worn, creased and chipped overall, a few long tears closed on the back with archival tape, not clipped, now protected by removable mylar sleeve).
